Saving Energy in Your Home (Electricity)
They say charity starts from the home… despite my undeniable large amount of intelligence I never really understood what that meant until a short while ago. The reason was probably because the statement can be quite literal and also have deep philosophical meaning to it as well.
Today we are going to take this statement very literally. Energy saving starts in the home, then at work at anywhere else. SignTech paperless solutions is a company that saves energy and time for other companies but just that’s just part of what we’re concerned about. The home is very important to us to. More than half of your life is spent in your house and so it’s the most important place to start saving energy. So other than paperless solutions we’ll point out some ways to save energy in your house:
- Switching up your light bulbs: Incandescent lighting was all well and good when Thomas Edison first invented the light bulb, it was new and the earth wasn’t in crisis and most importantly there was no other alternative lighting for your home besides candles and sunlight. Today the situation is much different, we have another way to provide electric lighting in the home yet people are still using the same type of light bulbs that have been around for well over a century. LED Bulbs use less energy and have a lifetime 25 times longer than the incandescent light bulbs. They may cost more initially but the price difference is negligible when considering the quality and how long it will last. Whatever you loose in buying the LED bulb, trust me, you’ll make it back in energy savings when that bill comes in. it uses 82% less energy than the incandescent light bulbs (note that incandescent light bulbs just mean the regular yellow light bulbs).
- Motion sensor lighting is something to consider if you have a backyard, garden or even a front porch. They turn on only when movement is detected and power down when no one is around.
- Turning off all electronics is very important, especially from the socket because they still draw power even while plugged in and off.
- Automated thermostats are helpful; they regulate the temperature of the environment without being constantly on. The perfect temperature that is usually recommended is 78. Also washing clothes in the warm cycle isn’t as necessary as you would think. Washing clothes in cold water is just as effective and also saves energy.
